Program Overview
The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Martinique (CHUM) invites 25 early-career researchers from six Caribbean territories to participate in this groundbreaking 12-month capacity building program. Fully funded by INTERREG and CHUM, this initiative addresses pressing health issues including NCDs, environmental risks, and epidemic preparedness.
Participants will engage in collaborative research opportunities, receive personalized mentorship, and develop essential skills in scientific writing, grant writing, and policy engagement through structured seminars and digital learning tools.

Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Trinidad-and-Tobago, Dominican Republic, Martinique, Guadeloupe
Duration
12 months with 3 one-week in-person seminars plus mentorship
Funding
100% expenses covered including travel, accommodation, and meals
Seminar Structure & Learning Journey
1
Session 1: Research Design - April 2026 (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)
Formulate research questions, develop protocols, master PICO and SMART criteria, conduct literature reviews, address ethics and community engagement.

Session 2: Data Management - June, 1-5 2026 (more info incoming)
Data collection, cleaning, security, statistical analysis using R, JASP, Jamovi. Learn database management and data visualization techniques.

Session 3: Scientific Communication - November 2026 (Barbados)
Final presentations, scientific writing, journal selection, peer review process, poster design, grant proposals, policy briefs and media communication strategies.
4
Mentorship (2026-2027)
Institution immersion and comprehensive feedback from experienced mentors.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Final-year medical students, Master's/PhD students, post-docs, health professionals
  • Residency in partner territories
  • English proficiency required
  • Health research experience preferred
